Social Studies

I hope everyone had a great break.  We will be moving full steam ahead in social studies this semester as we roll towards Milestones in April.  We will be continuing in Unit 4 Asia Geography this week with a focus on Asia culture and religions.  This section of the unit will not be Blended Learning.  The religions we will be discussing are Buddhism, Hinduism, Shintoism, and the Philosophy of Confucianism.   Reading the sections and answering the questions at home that cover these faiths and philosophies in the Asia Coach book pp. 146-152 will be a great reinforcement of what we are doing in the classroom.  Thank you for your support!

Language Arts

Language Arts is beginning a unit, "A Universal Community of Acceptance."  This theme will begin with readings about the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII.  We will be using the strategy of reciprocal teaching, in which each student takes a turn leading his or her group in a structured reading.

Please remind your student that starters and other work must be made up they are absent.  My assignments are all available on Google Classroom.  If you are curious about what we are working on, ask to see your child's account.
Remember:  students who succeed typically have the most involved parents and guardians.  I look forward to partnering with you to ensure each Panther's success!

Important Dates:
Tuesday, January 5th - ALL MISSING ASSIGNMENTS, CORRECTIONS, WAGGLE HOURS & EXTRA CREDIT DUE by 5 p.m!!!

WAGGLE: Students are expected to complete at least 2 hours per week in order to get full credit for their weekly homework grade. Students who do not meet this requirement will be given a grade of 55. Students can make up that grade by doing additional time another week. Please encourage your child to spend at least 30 minutes each night completing their assignments.

Students who make a grade below 100% are expected to correct their wrong answers and re-submit for partial credit for all assignments except vocabulary tests and some on-line assessments. Corrections can be done during homeroom, ELT, lunch or after-school. Students must have their homeroom, ELT or lunch teacher's permission. Arrangements for after school must be made in advance. Students are to be picked up by 5pm.

Parents please check Campus regularly and monitor your child's grades and assignment completion. Assignments with a grade 55 and NHI in the comment box means that assignment was Not Handed In. Email me at baldwink@clarke. k12.ga.us for questions, comments and concerns.

Extra Credit
Students who reach 75% completion with a grade 70 or higher on MobyMax State Test Prep by 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 13th will receive extra credit for the 3rd marking period.
