7th Grade News: January 28-February 1, 2019

Foundations in Design Development: A NEW after school program for 7th graders Architectural Collaborative, the Athens Community Career Academy, and 21st Century are offering a new after school program, Foundations in Design Development. Only 20 spaces are available for this program. If you’re interested, please sign up! The deadline is Friday, February 1. Students will meet on Wednesdays from 3:55–5:25pm, starting February 6. You will learn about architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, planning, and computer modeling. Each week will be led by a professional in their field of work. The program will continue next fall with 2 field trips to see construction projects. Then we’ll make teams, take a look at Hilsman, and work together to come up with possible solutions to design problems you identify. 7th Grade News: January 22-25, 2019

Binder Check Updates Binder checks are continuing for the rest of the year. However, beginning this quarter, each teacher will now be checking for materials specific to that specific content area, not just checking for basic school supplies. Your child has a list of what is being checked in each class, which may change each week. As usual, students who earn enough points by the end of each month will continue to earn a dress down day! If you are in need of supplies for your child or would like to donate supplies, please contact your child's homeroom teacher. Black History Month Program The Hilsman Black History month presentation will take place on Thursday, February 21 from 6-7pm. Any students interested in performing, participating, or assisting with the presentation should contact Mr. Black in or Ms. Page in 8th grade. Monday, January 14 - College/Career Shirt Day Students and teachers are encouraged to wear a college or career t-shirt and uniform bottoms. Please make sure the college or career is visible on the shirt as solid colors are not permitted. If you do not wish to participate, please be in regular uniform. Report Cards Report cards were sent home Thursday, January 10. If you have questions or concerns about your child's grades or academic standing, please contact their teacher(s). Reviewing Important Standards and Skills The 7th grade teachers decided one way we will support students is to conduct a weekly review in each class of the most important standards and skills to prepare students for state testing and 8th grade. Report Cards The second nine weeks of school have come to an end, which means teachers will be submitting final grades for Q2 report cards in the coming days.
