Team Kani News: October 3-7, 2016

Parent Conferences

Parent Conferences will take place next week.  Each student received a Conference Request Letter on Monday, September 26.  Please return your letter indicating your top choices for a conference as soon as you can.
Team Kani will host 20 minute conferences and you will have the opportunity to speak to each teacher on the team.  You will start your conference with a pair of teachers and then meet with the next pair.  Mrs. Hubbard and Coach Page will meet with parents in Coach Page's room for a 10 minute conference.  Mr. Spinks and Ms. Hughes will meet with parents in Ms. Hughes's room for the remaining 10 minutes of your 20 minute conference time.

English/Language Arts News
In Language Arts this week, we will continue working in the genre of Science Fiction. Students will practice writing mini-stories for their own unique Sci-Fi story by viewing a variety of Sci-Fi images that helps them to create their own narrative Sci-Fi story. Later in the week, students will be given a choice to either extend their mini-stories or to create an entirely new one of their own.

This week also brings to a close the first 9 week grading period. All students need to complete and turn in any missing assignments they currently have outstanding. Students will need to turn in all missing work this week so that I have adequate time to grade and then post grades for report cards. Please check Parent Portal for any assignments that are flagged as missing so that you can support your child at home to get assignments turned in this week.  Your assistance is appreciated!

Next week, all ELA classes will be attending the Book Fair. Students will have an opportunity to purchase books during our class visit and throughout all of next week - including during Parent-Teacher Conferences on our late night (Wednesday, Oct. 12th). This is an excellent opportunity for your child to select books of interest and get them reading at home!
