English/Language Arts News
For the last three weeks during class, students have been working on research and they are now finishing prewriting/composing a rough draft on their chosen topic related to groups who participated in WWII.  Students at this point should now be getting close to the final draft stage in the writing process. The final draft of their 5 paragraph expository essay is due this Friday, Jan. 20th. This week marks 3 full weeks we have devoted class time to working on the project. The final draft of the expository essay counts as one of three test grades for the current nine week grading period, so please check with your child to ensure he/she is adequately progressing on the project by: 1) having completed and been checked off for the Progress Guide (the research notes document), 2) having completed and been checked off for the Prewrite document, 3) currently writing or having been checked off for the rough draft, and 4) currently writing the final draft to submit on Friday of this week.

Please continue to check Parent Portal for updates on your child's progress in the class, and encourage him/her to turn in all assignments on time. Your support in helping us to ensure your child's academic progress and success is appreciated!

Having said this, students have been informed they will have a Unit 3 Test next week. Students will be given a study guide on Friday and the expectation is to have the study guide completed by next Tuesday.

Students will also need to complete 1 hour of Waggle this week as extra practice that will count as a homework grade.

Please continue to check Parent Portal for the latest updates concerning missing assignments and grades.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Social Studies News

This week we will be beginning our last new content of Unit 4 Asia Geography, Asian religions and philosophies.  We will not be using the blended model that we used with the previous two sections of this unit. With that said some students have not turned in their Asia Environment Ticket which was due last Thursday. Total this ticket accounts for four grades and it is essential that all students get it turned in. This content over Asia religions is foreign to most students and can be quite complex and difficult to understand. To master these standards it is very important students read and complete all assignments and study outside of school. This week our focus is over Hinduism and Buddhism. The  Asia coach book in the ABOUT section of google classroom can be a helpful study resource.  Thank you for your support!

SS7G12 The student will analyze the diverse cultures of the people who live in Southern and Eastern Asia.
a. Explain the differences between an ethnic group and a religious group.

b. Compare and contrast the prominent religions in Southern and Eastern Asia: Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Shintoism and the philosophy of Confucianism.
