7th Grade News: September 15-22, 2017

Mid-Term Progress Reports

Mid-Term Progress Reports were given to students on Friday, September 15.  They are to be signed by a parent or a guardian and then returned to the student's English/Language Arts teacher by Wednesday, September 20.


Picture Day

School Picture Day is Tuesday, September 19.  The photo packages are pre-pay.  Envelopes showing package options are available from Mrs. Maxey and Mrs. Hubbard.

Detention

The 7th Grade hosts detention every Tuesday from 4:00-5:00 pm.  If your child receives a detention, he or she will have a detention notice provided at least 2 school days in advance.

***Students have a 30 minute per night reading log. 
RL1: Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
RL2: Determine a theme and/or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.
L2: Analyze the main ideas and supporting details presented in diverse media and formats and explain how the ideas clarify a topic, text, or issue under study.

Math News
IMPORTANT: Due to the hurricane, Our Unit 1 Test will be on Tuesday, September 19th. Students were given a study guide this past week (linked below with answer key). We will spend Monday reviewing for the test. This will be our first test and will count for 60% of students' grade.

On Wednesday, following the test, we will begin Unit 2. Unit 2 explores "Stretching and Shrinking." Concepts discussed during this unit include scale factor, similar figures, and proportional reasoning.

Social Studies News

This week in social studies we are continuing our study of the modern history of Africa. This week we will focus on the Pan-Africanism movement and apartheid in South Africa. Students will have a quiz on Tuesday over the scramble for Africa and Pan-Africanism. This unit will finish on September 29. 

SS7H1 Analyze continuity and change in Africa.
a. Explain how the European partitioning across Africa contributed to conflict, civil war, and artificial political boundaries in Africa today. b. Explain how the Pan-African movement and nationalism led to independence in Kenya and Nigeria. c. Explain the creation and end of apartheid in South Africa and the roles of Nelson Mandela and F.W.de Klerk.
