***Students have a 30 minute per night reading log. 
RL1: Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
L2: Analyze the main ideas and supporting details presented in diverse media and formats and explain how the ideas clarify a topic, text, or issue under study.

Special Event on Thursday, March 29:  
  • Family Science Night:  Thursday, January 29 from 5:00-7:00 pm.
  • Students that attend will receive a bonus 100 in Science class that can be used to replace a low or missing formative assessment grade.
Reminder:  Cell Model Projects are due by January 26.  


Math News
We hope everyone enjoyed their 3-day weekend. As we come back to school, this week in math will be another important one. Having said that, specifically, we will be wrapping up Unit 3. The past two weeks, we have been exploring and working with inequalities (greater than, less than, etc...). This week, we will learn about and practice combining like terms (example: 4t + 3t = 7t). On Thursday, we will review lessons completed since our return from the holiday break. On Friday, we will have our Unit 3 Test!

Social Studies News

Students are learning about the modern history of the Middle East (about 1900-present) and focusing on how land and religion are sources of conflict. They have been reading LOTS of primary and secondary sources to examine the origins and sides of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

March 16, 2020 Parents Guide to Google Classroom  link Hilsman Cyber Days Letter to Parents and Students   Hilsman Administration School closed Monday, March 16 through Friday March 20. More details as we received them from the Clarke County District Superintendent Meals for Students — The Clarke County School District will provide free meals to students during the closure caused by the COVID-19 virus. The district will offer meals for pick up at two school sites as well as neighborhood hubs. Students will receive a breakfast and lunch meal. Service will begin Tuesday, March 17.  Service Guidelines  To ensure the safety of all our students, we request the following guidelines be followed: 1. Monday, March 23, 2020 2020 Week 10. March 30, 2020 Hilsman Administration General Information While our school is closed, school will continue from home. We have implemented distance learning throughout the district, in which our students and staff will continue school virtually from home. For full details on how these Cyber Days will work, we hope the following links will be helpful: Panther Cyber Days One-Stop Shop (a slideshow containing all relevant info regarding assignments, schedules, meal services, laptops/WiFi, contact info, etc.) Meal Service for CCSD Students Meals for students will continue during our school closure. Announcements:  Students Return Face-to-Face This Week! K-8 students will begin in-person instruction starting Monday November 9th, with families also having the option to remain virtual. Below are a few helpful links to check out with regards to our reopening: - CCSD Weekly Update - posted 11/6 - CCSD Reopening Information FAQ - posted 10/30 - CCSD Reopening Info tab (contains all documents and updates from the school district) - Hilsman Town Hall Nov. 5th Slideshow Asynchronous Work Day for Virtual Students on Monday 11/9 There will be no Zoom classes for virtual students on Monday -- instead, teachers will post asynchronous assignments on Google Classroom for students to work on independently. This is because much of Monday will be spent going over new rules and procedures with our face-to-face students as we get used to returning to the building.
