Parent Conferences are THIS week!


You should have received a Parent Conference letter from your child's 2nd period teacher or case manager.  Conferences will take place Wednesday-Friday of this week, March 28-30. 


Family Science Night

Students that attend with a parent or a guardian will earn a Bonus 100 in Science for the 4th 9 Weeks.

Math News
Welcome back from a much needed Spring Break! We are in the 4th quarter. As Ms. Tolbert mentioned, we must all work together to "Finish the Drill" (Go Dawgs). In math, we are halfway through one of our toughest units of study, Unit 5 - Geometry. This week, we will focus our learning on Volume and Surface Area. Most students show success in finding the Volume of figures but struggle with finding the Surface Area of figures. Volume, mathematically, is determined by multiplying the area of the figure's base by the height of the figure (for a rectangular prism, this is represented as length*width*height). Surface Area, mathematically, is found by adding the areas of each face on a specific figure. Students can expect to have a "check-up" on Friday to assess their learning during this week. Our first lesson for this week, shown below as "Filling and Wrapping 1.1" has been linked in the blog for your reference.

Our week will look as follows:
Monday: Filling and Wrapping 1.1
Tuesday: Filling and Wrapping 1.2
Wednesday: Filling and Wrapping 1.3
Thursday: Filling and Wrapping 1.4
Friday: Volume and Surface Area Check-Up

Social Studies News

Students are studying the religious and philosophical beliefs of people in Southern and Eastern Asia: Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Shintoism. They will have a quiz over this topic on Friday, March 30.

Monday, March 19: Compare and Contrast Buddhism and Hinduism 
Tuesday, March 20: Shintoism reading and notes
Wednesday, March 21: Confucianism reading and notes
Thursday, March 22: Finish Confucianism
Friday, March 23: Quiz and write in journals

March 16, 2020 Parents Guide to Google Classroom  link Hilsman Cyber Days Letter to Parents and Students   Hilsman Administration School closed Monday, March 16 through Friday March 20. More details as we received them from the Clarke County District Superintendent Meals for Students — The Clarke County School District will provide free meals to students during the closure caused by the COVID-19 virus. The district will offer meals for pick up at two school sites as well as neighborhood hubs. Students will receive a breakfast and lunch meal. Service will begin Tuesday, March 17.  Service Guidelines  To ensure the safety of all our students, we request the following guidelines be followed: 1. We have implemented distance learning throughout the district, in which our students and staff will continue school virtually from home. Announcements:  Students Return Face-to-Face This Week! K-8 students will begin in-person instruction starting Monday November 9th, with families also having the option to remain virtual.
