School Health Services

Hilsman Health Center is now open!

The Hilsman Health Center is now officially open! In order for students to be served, they need to have a parent/guardian fill out a consent form and return it to Nurse Caitlyn. Once the form is returned, we can schedule an appointment. If students have their consent form signed (and on file) and we get verbal permission, our nurses can walk students to the Health Center while they're at school if it's for urgent care (fever, asthma visit, etc.). Otherwise, it operates like a regular doctor's office! They currently do not have a phone number (they're working on it!), but appointments can still be made through the Athens Neighborhood Health Center. They are also taking walk-in visits for the time being!

Have any questions? Send Nurse Caitlyn an email at kurishc@clarke.k12.ga.us.

Lesson Plan
Art Q3 Lesson Plan
7th graders will be finishing a project called My Surreal Neighborhood. They will then start a clay reliquary unit. Students will write short eulogies on their lost loved one (whether this be the death of a loved one, the end of a friendship, or break up) and designing reliquaries. They will then make a clay reliquary and relic to commemorate their lost loved one. After the pieces dry for 2 weeks and are fired in the kiln, students will paint their sculptures.

Family and Consumer Science

7th grade Family and Consumer Science begins our second unit this week. We will be learning about how to become more conscious of the resources we use in our everyday lives and how we can develop more ethical and sustainable habits. Friday’s Unit 1 tests have been graded and entered into infinite campus. Students wishing to do retakes or test corrections to bring up their score must do so before Friday, 2/21.

Agricultural Science

This week, 7th grade will continue their 2-week "Importance of Agriculture" unit. We will study the history of Agriculture, and how the field has changed in modern times. We will also use class time to plan our Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) projects.

The "Supervised Agriculture Experience" is the only homework assigned to Agriculture students all quarter and counts for 2 summative grades. Students will design and complete a project that relates to agriculture to help themselves, their family, or their community. I will stay after school all semester on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 if students would prefer to work on their project at school instead of at home.

Our schools Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter will meet on the first and last Thursday of every month from 4-5, and all Agricultural Science students are encouraged to attend meetings.

Students need to fill out a permission slip to stay after school for SAE workdays or FFA meetings, and are welcome to ride the activity bus home from Hilsman. Please reach out if you have questions, or if you would like to support the school agriculture program in any way.
