Dear Clarke County School District Community,
We have been closely monitoring coronavirus (COVID-19) with guidance from the CDC, Georgia Department of Public Health, Clarke County Health Department, and the Georgia Department of Education. As the situation has continued to change rapidly, our top priority remains the health and well-being of our school community.
This afternoon, Governor Brian Kemp gave local school systems the ability to close school for up to two weeks to limit the spread of this virus. While there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Clarke County, in the greater interest of public health, CCSD will be closed for the week of March 16th -20th. We will re-evaluate next Thursday, March 19th, to determine if continued closing is needed. During this closing, there will be no extracurricular activities, sports, school events, or field trips. As additional information and guidance are provided, updates will be shared.
On Monday, March 16, 248-day Central Office staff, Principals, Assistant Principals, Instructional Coaches and Department Chairs (High School Only) need to report to work. If any of these staff traveled to a Level 3 country, they should stay home and notify their supervisor. This workday will be to prepare for a potential two-week closure.
Over this period, schools and buses will continue to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected using COVID-19 approved cleaners. We ask our families to wash backpacks, coats, and jackets as soon as possible as well.
Your child(ren)’s teachers and principals will be sending out information regarding digital and distance learning and school nutrition services in the near future. Information about COVID-19 will continue to be posted at https://www.clarke.k12.ga.us/.
Especially in this uncertain time, we appreciate our community for their continued support. Please take the necessary precautions to keep yourself, your families, and the broader community safe.
Sincerely,
Xernona J. Thomas
Interim Superintendent

School Health Services
Hilsman Health Center is now open!
The Hilsman Health Center is now officially open! In order for students to be served, they need to have a parent/guardian fill out a consent form and return it to Nurse Caitlyn. Once the form is returned, we can schedule an appointment. If students have their consent form signed (and on file) and we get verbal permission, our nurses can walk students to the Health Center while they're at school if it's for urgent care (fever, asthma visit, etc.). Otherwise, it operates like a regular doctor's office! They currently do not have a phone number (they're working on it!), but appointments can still be made through the Athens Neighborhood Health Center. They are also taking walk-in visits for the time being!
Have any questions? Send Nurse Caitlyn an email at kurishc@clarke.k12.ga.us.
