ELA News
Students are beginning to settle in for the school year as we head into our third week of school.
We will continue to read and examine folktales from different parts of the world this next week. Students will take their first test in ELA on Thursday on folktales. We also have our first media center class visit later this week, and we will go to the media center every other week thereafter. Please encourage your child to check out books to read at home and to complete all work in class each day, such as our daily Starter along with all other assigned work.  Thank you for your support!


Science News

Monday = Freshwater Biomes
Tuesday = Estuary Biomes
Wednesday = Saltwater Biomes
Thursday = Biomes Review
Friday = Biomes Test
Assignments due = Syllabus, Science Student Information/Lab Safety Contract, Desert & Rainforest Slide Shows


Math News

Students received their first two grades last week, a homework grade and a quiz grade. Current grades have been posted. Any student who wishes to make corrections or retake their quiz will have the opportunity to do so on Thursday morning from 7:15-8:00 am. Students will receive another homework assignment on Tuesday and it will be due on Thursday. Students will also have a quiz on Wednesday.  Last but not least, students will join our official Google Classroom this week. Our daily math presentations as well as other helpful resources, such as our syllabus, can be found on Google Classroom. Overall, I am very happy with our progress and am excited to continue teaching/learning! Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Social Studies News
This week in social studies we will continue our focus on Middle East Geography.  Students will fill cover major physical features of the middle east as well as the impact oil and water have on the people there.   On Wednesday students will take a physical map quiz over the map that they labeled last Wednesday.  The Middle East coach book that students have linked in the About section of google classroom is a great study resource to reinforce what we are doing in the classroom. SS7G6 The student will discuss environmental issues across Southwest Asia (Middle East).
a. Explain how water pollution and the unequal distribution of water impacts irrigation and drinking water.


SS7G7 The student will explain the impact of location, climate, physical characteristics, distribution of natural resources and population distribution on Southwest Asia (Middle East).
a. Explain how the distribution of oil has affected the development of Southwest Asia (Middle East).
b. Describe how the deserts and rivers of Southwest Asia (Middle East) have affected the population in terms of  where people live, the type of work they do, and how they travel.


SS7E6 The student will explain how voluntary trade benefits buyers and sellers in Southwest Asia (Middle East).
c. Explain the primary function of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)
