The Hilsman Science Fair was on Thursday, December 8. The winners were announced on Friday, December 9. Team Kani had 6 projects that won and qualified to compete in the District Level Science Fair on Saturday, January 14 at Cedar Shoals High School.
We are back in full swing in math class. Last week, we reviewed topics covered before we left for winter break. This week, we are beginning to study Algebra, specifically learning how to solve for unknown values. Students are working with equations and learning how to keep each side of equations equal or "balanced".
On Friday, students will take a quiz over the content covered this week. Most students seem to be learning this information quickly so I am hopeful that our first quiz scores will be high.
Students will also be given a homework sheet on Wednesday that will be due on Friday. In order to be successful on the Friday quiz, students should continue to pay attention during class as well as successfully complete their homework assignment.
Grades for the 3rd nine weeks will begin to roll out soon so please continue to check Parent Portal for the latest updates concerning grades.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

English/Language Arts News
For the last two weeks in class, students have been researching a topic of their choice as it relates to different groups who played an integral part in WWII. Our class research will wrap up on Wednesday of this week, and students will then begin the writing process to craft an expository essay based upon their in-depth research on their chosen topic. We will spend the last few days in class this week and early next week completing the essay. The expository essay will count as one of three test grades for the 3rd 9 weeks, so please check with your child to ensure he/she is progressing on the essay and that revisions and edits have been completed before the final draft is due next week for a test grade.
Please continue to check Parent Portal for updates on your child's progress, and encourage your child to turn in all of his/her work on time. Your support in helping us to ensure your child's academic success is appreciated!
