English/Language Arts News
Next week, we will continue our introduction and work with poetry. Students will write an original, "I Am From" poem as part of their narrative writing skills practice.

We are closing in on the last couple of weeks of the 3rd quarter, and there are some students who have missing work. Any missing work needs to be completed and turned in as quickly as possible so that I have adequate time to grade submitted work and enter grades before next Friday, March 3rd - the last school day before Spring Break begins.

As always, please continue to check Parent Portal for updates on your child's progress in the class, and encourage him/her to turn in all assignments on time. Your support in helping us to ensure your child's academic progress and success is appreciated!

We're only 1 week away from Spring Break! This week, we are beginning Unit 5 - Geometry. We will be exploring shapes, angles, area, and perimeter. Our weekly investigations we involve using protractors and angle rulers. Students have been given access to our Unit 5 TIP Chart on Google Classroom. The TIP Chart is designed to help students learn the vocabulary covered in Unit 5 and should be completed by Friday of this week.

Over the weekend, I entered two quiz grades for each student. The Unit 4 Test that students completed on Friday will be graded this week. Please continue to check Parent Portal for the latest updates concerning missing assignments and grades. All grades will be updated by Thursday of this week. Most grades are continuing to improve!

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Social Studies News

This week we will be beginning Unit 6 Asia History. We will be starting with Gandhi and the Indian independence movement. We will be watching the motion picture Gandhi and students will be completing a packet over the film that will count as a summative grade. It is essential that students get this completed by Friday because this is the last day of the 9 weeks. Also instead of doing a Unit 5 common assessment exam students spent last week working on a performance task in class. Even though students were given a full week to complete the assignment some students did not turn it in. This performance task will count as their summative grade for Unit 5 60% and failure to get this turned in by this Friday will have a very negative impact on their grade for the 3rd 9 weeks. They students were given a choice of assignments to choose from and they began Friday Feb. 17 and it is due last Friday at the end of class. Also some students have not turned in their Asia Environment Ticket which was due six weeks ago. Total this ticket accounts for four grades and it is essential that all students get it turned in. Failure to do so will greatly impact their grade on their report cards. Finally students will be allowed to retake their Unit 4 summative exam if they would like and also make up any missed quizzes from the 3rd 9 weeks. The Asia coach book in the ABOUT section of google classroom can be a helpful study resource.  Thank you for your support!

SS7H3 The student will analyze continuity and change in Southern and Eastern Asia leading to the 21st century.
a. Describe how nationalism led to independence in India and Vietnam.
b. Describe the impact of Mohandas Gandhi’s belief in non-violent protest.
c. Explain the role of the United States in the rebuilding of Japan after WWII.
d. Describe the impact of Communism in China in terms of Mao Zedong, the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, and Tiananmen Square.
e. Explain the reasons for foreign involvement in Korea and Vietnam in terms of containment of Communism.
