Parent Conferences

Fall Parent Conferences will take place October 11, 12, & 13

Grade Level Parent Meeting

In an effort to address many of your questions regarding curricula and grades, each grade level has scheduled a Parent Night. Administration will not be on the agenda as this is a time for parents and teachers to converse about what is needed to ensure our students are successful academically as well as behaviorally. The 7th Grade meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 10 beginning at 6:30 pm.

***Students have a 30 minute per night reading log. 
RL1: Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
RL2: Determine a theme and/or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.
L2: Analyze the main ideas and supporting details presented in diverse media and formats and explain how the ideas clarify a topic, text, or issue under study.

Math News
In math this week, our students will continue their study of Unit 2. Unit 2 explores "Stretching and Shrinking." Concepts discussed during this unit include scale factor, similar figures, and proportional reasoning. We have already made great strides during the past week and are preparing to end the first nine weeks on a high note.

A note regarding grades: As some of you may have already realized, our first Unit Test grade is in the process of being entered into the grade book. Having said this, we encourage parents not to worry, but rather to have a productive discussion with your child regarding their current grade and the steps they can take to increase their success. Also, please be on the look out and/or be sure to ask your child about ways to make-up or complete test corrections.

Social Studies News

This week in social studies we are finishing our study of the modern history of Africa. We will finish learning about apartheid and review for the unit 2 test, which is on Friday, September 29. The study guide is due on Wednesday and students will also get an answer key to study on Wednesday. Late study guides will not receive any credit.

SS7H1 Analyze continuity and change in Africa.
a. Explain how the European partitioning across Africa contributed to conflict, civil war, and artificial political boundaries in Africa today. b. Explain how the Pan-African movement and nationalism led to independence in Kenya and Nigeria. c. Explain the creation and end of apartheid in South Africa and the roles of Nelson Mandela and F.W.de Klerk.

March 16, 2020 Parents Guide to Google Classroom  link Hilsman Cyber Days Letter to Parents and Students   Hilsman Administration School closed Monday, March 16 through Friday March 20. More details as we received them from the Clarke County District Superintendent Meals for Students — The Clarke County School District will provide free meals to students during the closure caused by the COVID-19 virus. The district will offer meals for pick up at two school sites as well as neighborhood hubs. Students will receive a breakfast and lunch meal. Monday, March 23, 2020 2020 Week 10. March 30, 2020 Hilsman Administration General Information While our school is closed, school will continue from home. We have implemented distance learning throughout the district, in which our students and staff will continue school virtually from home. For full details on how these Cyber Days will work, we hope the following links will be helpful: Panther Cyber Days One-Stop Shop (a slideshow containing all relevant info regarding assignments, schedules, meal services, laptops/WiFi, contact info, etc.) Meal Service for CCSD Students Meals for students will continue during our school closure. Announcements:  Students Return Face-to-Face This Week! K-8 students will begin in-person instruction starting Monday November 9th, with families also having the option to remain virtual.
