Math News
Two weeks ago, we wrapped up Unit 4 - our study of Probability. Most students showed a lot of success during Unit 4. This past week, we began Unit 5 - our study of GEOMETRY! While students usually show success in Unit 4, Unit 5 often seems to be more difficult. We will continue to use homework assignments to reteach/reassess student learning. Students should expect to receive a homework assignment on Tuesday and the assignment will be due on Thursday. Students can also expect to be given their first Unit 5 Quiz on Friday.
Our week will look as follows:
Monday: Measuring Angles
Tuesday: Design Challenge
Wednesday: Angle Sums of Polygons
Thursday: Ins and Outs of Polygons
Friday: Unit 5 Quiz 1

As always, please feel free to email your child's respective math teacher if you have any questions.

Social Studies News

Students are studying Southern and Eastern Asia, focusing primarily on the countries of China, Japan,  India, Vietnam,  South Korea, and North Korea. This week they will continue studying the geography of this region by completing several assignments at their own page. We called this a "blended learning unit" It is partly online, partly offline, mostly self-paced, and personalized for each student. See a list of the assignments at bit.ly/seasiageoticket. All students will complete some of these assignments, but no student will complete all of the assignments.

Beginning on Thursday, students will begin studying the environmental issues of air and water pollution in India and China.

Upcoming dates:
    Wed 2/28    Physical Map Quiz
    Thurs 3/8    Environment Quiz
