7th Grade News: August 27-31, 2018

Binder Checks!

Students are doing fantastic staying organized and using their supplies to support learning. Each content will be checking binders throughout the week help students maintain their organization. They will be looking for each student to have a binder, agenda, pencil pouch or pencil case, pen/pencil/highlighter, dividers, a homework folder or homework section, and notebook paper. Students who maintain these supplies throughout the month will earn a dress down day at the end of the month!

The first dress down day will be Friday, August 31. Students will know if they are eligible if they earned at least 80 points on their yellow or blue binder check sheet.

***Students must read 20-30 minutes each night.
ELAGSE7W3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using
effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.
ELAGSE7L1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

Science News

Topic:  August 27-31:  Relationships Among Organisms in the Biomes
Friday:  Quiz #4

Students need a Notebook for Science Work.  The Science Notebook can be a spiral notebook or a composition book.  Notebook Checks will take place on August 29 & 30.  

Math News
Our week will look as follows:

Monday: Adding and Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbers
Tuesday: Adding and Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbers
Wednesday: Adding and Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbers
Thursday: Writing Addition of Negative Numbers as Subtraction Problems
Friday: Practice and Extension of this Week's Concepts

MGSE7.NS.1 Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram.

Social Studies News

Students are studying the geography and cultures of the Middle East. This week they are focusing on the three monotheistic religions that were founded in the Middle East--Judaism,  Christianity, and Islam--including important terms and concepts. Next week, students will learn about three prominent ethnic groups in the Middle East: Arabs, Kurds, and Persians. Digital copies of many (not all) of the assignments are also uploaded in Google Classroom also. Thank you for your support! 

Upcoming social studies dates: Religion vocabulary quiz - Friday, August 31 (religion vocabulary list)

Social Studies standards: SS7G8 Analyze the diverse cultural characteristics of the people who live in Southwest Asia (Middle East).
a. Explain the differences between an ethnic group and a religious group.
b. Describe the diversity of religions within Southwest Asian (Middle Eastern) ethnic groups
(e.g., Arabs, Persians, and Kurds).
c. Compare and contrast the prominent religions in Southwest Asia (Middle East): Judaism,
Islam, and Christianity.


Spanish News

The 7th Grade On-Level & 7th Grade Advanced classes are finishing their final week of unit revision. This unit revision includes all of the curriculum that the students learned in their 6th grade Spanish class.
