7th Grade News: November 12-16, 2018


Monday is College/Career shirt day


Our monthly College/Career T-Shirt Day will be this Monday, November 12th. Students are encouraged to wear a t-shirt representing a college (or career) with uniform bottoms. Please make sure the college is visible on the shirt, as solid colors are not permitted. Students who do not wish to participate must wear regular uniforms. Our staff will be decked out and we hope students will join us!

Progress Reports coming home!


Progress reports will be distributed and sent home this Tuesday, November 13th. This will provide the 4.5 week notice of how your child is progressing in their classes for this quarter. If you have questions or concerns about your child's grades, please reach out to your child's teacher(s) - see below for a full 7th grade faculty contact list. If you would like your child to receive extra help, PSP meets after school on Mondays and Tuesdays for math and language arts, and transportation is provided! Please contact Ms. Ward (wardt@clarke.k12.ga.us) if you want more information.


Fall Orchestra Concert Wed 11/14 @ 6:30pm

This year, orhestra concerts will be held in the Fine Arts Auditorium at Cedar Shoals High.  Students should report at 6:00pm to tune. Please contact Ms. Floyd for more details at floydr@clarke.k12.ga.us.

America Recycles Day is on Thursday 11/15

Hilsman will collect aluminum cans and used health and beauty product containers. These items will be sold and the money earned will be donated to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and UNICEF.

Ag / FFA News

Tuesday 4-6pm: FFA Friendsgiving Meeting and Trivia Contest (bring a side or dessert if you are able)
Wednesday: SAE Check in ALL Ag Classes. 2 hours and 2 pictures due on the template on Google Classroom. All directions for adding hours and pictures and what counts as a project (8 pages of ideas and multiple pages of videos) are all on Google Classroom.

***Students must read 20-30 minutes each night.
ELAGSE7W2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content. 
ELAGSE7RL2: Determine a theme and/or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.
ELAGSE7SL4: Present claims and findings, emphasizing salient points in a focused, coherent manner with pertinent descriptions, facts, details, and examples; use appropriate eye contact, adequate volume, and clear pronunciation.
ELAGSE7L2: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing


Math News
The current unit in your child's mathematics class this year is Stretching and Shrinking: Understanding Similarity. Its focus is geometry. It teaches students to understand and use the idea of similarity. In this unit, students will find relationships among figures that have been stretched or shrunk. They will analyze the resulting changes in properties of the figures, such as area and perimeter. Similarity will also be used to find the heights of real objects (such as buildings and flagpoles), and proprtions of mixtures and percentages of a value.

Homework is given on Monday; due on Friday.
Monday: Using proportions to find percents.
Tuesday: Using ratios and proportions to find amounts of a mixture.
Wednesday: Unit 2 Performance Task
Thursday: Unit 2 Performance Task
Friday: Review Unit 2 Post-Test (Test on Tuesday, Nov. 27th)

Science Fair:
Students that are interested in participating in the Science Fair should see Mrs. Fassbender or Mrs. Maxey for information and guidance.  Mrs. Fassbender and Mrs. Maxey are our school's gifted collaborators.  Any student can participate in the Science Fair.


Social Studies News

Last week students began studying Southern and Eastern Asia, with a focus on India, China, Japan, the Koreas, and Vietnam. They will study the geography of this region at their OWN PACE, using several assignments that their teachers choose for them to complete over the next 3 weeks. Each student had their assignments specifically chosen for them from this list: bit.ly/u4geoticket. There is optional homework every night that will help students learn the required material.
