Foundations in Design Development: A NEW after school program for 7th graders
Architectural Collaborative, the Athens Community Career Academy, and 21st Century are offering a new after school program, Foundations in Design Development. Only 20 spaces are available for this program. If you’re interested, please sign up! The deadline is Friday, February 1.

Students will meet on Wednesdays from 3:55–5:25pm, starting February 6. You will learn about architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, planning, and computer modeling. Each week will be led by a professional in their field of work. The program will continue next fall with 2 field trips to see construction projects. Then we’ll make teams, take a look at Hilsman, and work together to come up with possible solutions to design problems you identify.

To sign up for the Foundations in Design Development program, please see Ms. Seymour, the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher.

Black History Month Program
The Hilsman Black History month presentation will take place on Thursday, February 21 from 6-7pm. Any students interested in performing, participating, or assisting with the presentation should contact Mr. Black in or Ms. Page in 8th grade.

Reviewing Important Standards and Skills
The 7th grade teachers decided one way we will support students is to conduct a weekly review in each class of the most important standards and skills to prepare students for state testing and 8th grade. Science classes will support our math teachers and review math skills and concepts. Social studies teachers will support our ELA teachers and review language arts skills and concepts. This weekly review will continue at least through the beginning of April. If you have any questions, let us know! We'd be glad to answer them.

Math News
We are starting Unit 4 this week. In Unit 4, students will gain an understanding of experimental and theoretical probabilities. Students will find probablities by conducting experiments (with coins, number cubes, and spinners) and by analyzing situations (basketball free-throw success rates, tree diagrams, and organized lists). Students will use fractions, decimals, and percents to describe how likely events are.
