Monday, February 19, 2019 to Friday, February 22, 2019: On Tuesday, students will review for the Unit Test this week. On Wednesday, students will review for the Milestones Test in April. The remaining 2 days of this week will consist of taking the Unit Test.

ELAGSE7W1: Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.
ELAGSE7RI6:Determine two or more central ideas in a text and analyze their development over the course of
the text; provide an objective summary of the text.
ELAGSE7SL3: Delineate a speaker’s argument and specific claims, evaluating the soundness of the reasoning
and the relevance and sufficiency of the evidence.
ELAGSE7L3: Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.

Math News
We are in Unit 4 this week. In Unit 4, students will gain an understanding of experimental and theoretical probabilities. Students will find probabilities by conducting experiments (with coins, number cubes, and spinners) and by analyzing situations (basketball free-throw success rates, tree diagrams, and organized lists). Students will use fractions, decimals, and percents to describe how likely events are.

Homework will be given on Tuesday, 2/19 and will be due Friday, 2/22.

Science News
S7L3. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to explain how organisms reproduce either sexually or asexually and transfer genetic information to determine the traits of their offspring.

  • a. Construct an explanation supported with scientific evidence of the role of genes and chromosomes in the process of inheriting a specific trait.
  • b. Develop and use a model to describe how asexual reproduction can result in offspring with identical genetic information while sexual reproduction results in genetic variation. (Clarification statement: Models could include, but are not limited to, the use of monohybrid Punnett squares to demonstrate the heritability of genes and the resulting genetic variation, identification of heterozygous and homozygous, and comparison of genotype vs. phenotype.)
  • c. Ask questions to gather and synthesize information about the ways humans influence the inheritance of desired traits in organisms through selective breeding. (Clarification statement: The element specifically addresses artificial selection and the ways in which it is fundamentally different from natural selection.)

Social Studies News
Students are in the middle of a short unit on the governments and economies of Asian countries. They are focusing on India, China,  Japan, South Korea, and North Korea.

Spanish News
Students are still using the Elevation K-12 online platform to learn Spanish. It has been going well so far, and students are engaged in learning Spanish. March 16, 2020 Parents Guide to Google Classroom  link Hilsman Cyber Days Letter to Parents and Students   Hilsman Administration School closed Monday, March 16 through Friday March 20. More details as we received them from the Clarke County District Superintendent Meals for Students — The Clarke County School District will provide free meals to students during the closure caused by the COVID-19 virus. The district will offer meals for pick up at two school sites as well as neighborhood hubs. Students will receive a breakfast and lunch meal. Service will begin Tuesday, March 17.  Service Guidelines  To ensure the safety of all our students, we request the following guidelines be followed: 1. We have implemented distance learning throughout the district, in which our students and staff will continue school virtually from home. Announcements:  Students Return Face-to-Face This Week! K-8 students will begin in-person instruction starting Monday November 9th, with families also having the option to remain virtual.
