7th grade awards ceremony
UPDATE: The school district has provided transportation during the school day to Cedar Shoals on May 14. The 7th grade awards ceremony will take place around 10am-11am, but the exact time will be determined soon. This means we do not have to host the awards ceremony in the evening when some students cannot attend! Students who will receive awards will be getting invitations this week.

Band concert on Monday, May 6
It will start at 6:30pm and take place in the Cedar Shoals theater. We hope to see you there!

Agriscience/FFA News
Tuesday, April 30.
Agriscience Meeting 7:30-8:00am.
FFA Ice Cream Social- 4:00-6:00. Bring a topping if you would like or just come and enjoy those provided by FFA and our leadership team!

Thursday, May 2
SAE Workday 4-5.

Friday, May 3
SAE Final Check 3 hours/3 pictures due in Google Classroom on the SAE Template (ALL AG CLASSES!). This is a test grade! You can receive partial credit so make sure to upload any hours or pictures you have of you working!

Important Upcoming Dates for 7th graders
Please be advised of the following important upcoming dates for 7th graders over the last quarter:

May 1 - High school science enrollment letter due (if you have questions, contact one of the science teachers or Malenie Maxey at maxeym@clarke.k12.ga.us)
May 14 - 7th grade awards ceremony (at Cedar Shoals High School, from 10-11am)
May 17 - Last Day of School / early dismissal

Upcoming Testing Dates
Please be advised of the following dates scheduled for Georgia Milestone tests and MAP testing (MAP = Measures of Academic Progress; students take the MAP tests three times each year).

4/29 - MAP Math test
4/29-5/2 - Make-ups for all testing

ELA News
Monday, April 29, 2019 to Friday, May 3, 2019: Students will be introduced to folktales, reading folktales, and writing their own folktales this week. Students will write an original folktale independently and/or with a partner and/or a small group (teacher choice).

ELAGSE7L1: Demonstrate the command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage. Choose among simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences to signal differing relationships among ideas.
ELAGSE7RL2: Determine two or more central ideas in a text and analyze their development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.

Math News
We are in Unit 5, which focuses on Geometry. Students will recognize, analyze, measure, and reason about the shapes and visual patterns that are important features of our world. Khan Academy is a good resource for students with internet access. Here is a link to a resource that may help family members help their scholar in this unit.

Related Math Standards:
G.4 Given the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle, USE them to SOLVE problems; GIVE an informal derivation of the relationship between the circumference and area of a circle.

Social Studies News
Students are finishing a unit on the modern history of Africa. There was not a social studies milestones test, and our curriculum will continue until the end of the school year.

Monday: Finish Apartheid
Tuesday: Study guide due
Wednesday: Review for test
Thursday: Unit 8 test
Friday: Complete career inventory with the counselors

Standards for this unit:
SS7H1 Analyze continuity and change in Africa.
a. Explain how the European partitioning across Africa contributed to conflict, civil war, and artificial political boundaries in Africa today.
b. Explain how the Pan-African movement and nationalism led to independence in Kenya and Nigeria.
c. Explain the creation and end of apartheid in South Africa and the roles of Nelson Mandela and F.W.de Klerk

Spanish News
Spanish is working on the last unit of the year, La familia.

*Quiz every Friday with a make up opportunity the following Monday.
If you are missing any past Quiz since after Spring break, please let Mr. Scott know and you will have the opportunity to take it.
**Spanish 1 Placement exam May 8th district wide. This test will happen on every class period. Passing grades will be extra credit. Make up day on May 10th.

* Review for placement exam will be on May 1st and 2nd
   4pm-5:30pm at Sra. Laura's room.
