General 7th grade information
Monday, August 5 - First Day of School!
No school - August 23 and 26
Hilsman students do not have school on Friday 8/23 and Monday 8/26 so teachers can move into our beautiful new school building. All classes will resume on Tuesday 8/27 at the new Hilsman.Have a question about your student's schedule?
You can email your student's homeroom teacher (email addresses are below) or call the front office and leave a message. We'll help you as soon as possible! ELT will be during 3rd period for all grade levels this year. However, students will report to homeroom for advisement during this class period until we move to the new building.Spread the word about this blog!
We realized last year that many of our parents we not aware of this blog despite our best efforts to promote it all year. If you are talking to a Hilsman parent, be sure they know about this excellent source of information! We'll update it weekly so you know what to expect all year.Content news
ELA News
Monday and Tuesday students will be getting to know their teacher and classmates by engaging in community building activities and creating classroom norms!
Wednesday and Thursday students will be focusing on their identity by closely reading "I Am" poems and then creating their own.

On Friday students will read "Seventh Grade" by Gary Soto and begin to learn some critical reading strategies to help them better understand complex text!
Math News
We will be starting Unit 1 and working with number lines.Tuesday and Wednesday: Students will be using number lines to add and subtract both positive and negative numbers.
Thursday: Students will be using the number lines to compare numbers, find the distance between two numbers, and locate the halfway point between two numbers
Friday: Students will be learning how to write a number sentence to represent a change on a number line, and how to use a number line to represent a number sentence.

Homework will be given out on Tuesday 8/6 and will be due Friday 8/9. Please have syllabus signed and returned by Friday 8/9.

- Tuesday-Thursday = Introduction to Ecology

- Homework for the Week: Organize Composition Book (it will serve as an Interactive Notebook) and get Syllabus signed & return it to school
Social Studies News
We are reviewing maps skills before beginning unit 1 on Friday. Unit 1 focuses on the geography, environmental issues, religions, and ethnic groups in the Middle East.Monday: Get to know students and go over the 7th grade social studies syllabus
Tuesday: Compare and contrast human geography and physical geography
Wednesday: Review relative location, examine maps of Earth
Thursday: Review longitude and latitude
Friday: Label physical features on a map of the Middle East
