General 7th grade information

Community Health Night 2019 @ the Hilsman Healthcare Center

The doctor is in at Hilsman and Gaines! All students and staff at Gaines Elementary will soon have easy access to sick visits, well visits, immunizations, dental services, counseling services, and more.

The Hilsman Healthcare Center, located behind the gym, will have its grand opening on October 8th, and will coincide with CCSD's Community Health Night! The overall goal of Community Health Night is to connect families with local health resources. Last year, we had a variety of health and wellness related vendors including asthma & diabetes educators, vision & dental resources, the Clarke County Health Department, National EMS, behavioral health providers, exercise and nutrition resources, and many more. We had over 75 vendors and 500+ attendees!

Fall Picture Day

Fall Picture Day at Hilsman will be this Friday, October 11th. Students must dress in uniforms. Students already got flyers. If they need a new one, they can ask their homeroom teacher.

On Thursday, October 18, students are off all day and teachers will hold conferences from 8am-8pm. There is no school for students or teachers on Friday, October 18.

You will be receiving more information from your student's homeroom teacher soon as they begin to schedule conferences for each student.

      ELA News

Students have started their Writing Workshop unit, and they are on their way to becoming published authors! Next week, we are working on coming up with our first story idea, creating realistic scenes and characters, and creating a story arc of our first story! Be sure to check out your student's writing journal if they have it to see what story they are creating!

      Math News

The update didn't save, so we'll update this section tomorrow!

Accelerated Math: Students will have hands-on experience in comparing surface areas and volumes of prisms. Students encounter the special properties of regular polygons and the principle that, for fixed perimeter, the polygon with the largest number of equal-length sides has the greatest area. Students will also develop formulas for calculating the volume of any right prism, and will base their strategy on the general principle that this volume is the product of the area of the base and the height.
