General News

CCSD to Remain All Virtual
Due to the increasingly high number of COVID cases in Athens and the surrounding areas, the Clarke County School District announced earlier this week that the return to in-person learning will be postponed for all students K-12 to a later date. (Previously, K-8 students were scheduled to have the option of returning on January 19th.)

While a specific date of a potential return has not been given, the district will be providing a further update the week of January 19th. Click here to read the letter from our Superintendent, Dr. Xernona Thomas, sent out to the CCSD community earlier this week. (Spanish version)

Interim Tests This Week
This week, students will be taking Interim Assessments in each of their classes. These tests, which will count towards students' overall grades, are cumulative and will cover material that students have been learning throughout Quarter 2. Interims will be taken on the following days:

Monday 1/11: ELA
Tuesday 1/12: Math
Wednesday 1/13: Science
Thursday: 1/14: Social Studies

To allow for plenty of time for students to take each test, we will be on a modified testing schedule for this week only. See below for our daily schedule this week:

No Zoom Classes - Friday, January 15th
Note that this Friday, January 15th is a teacher workday. This means Friday will be an asynchronous workday for students, meaning there will be no Zoom classes. Instead, they will have assignments posted on Google Classroom that they will work on independently.

No Zoom Classes - Monday, January 18th (MLK Day)
There will be no school on Monday, January 18th in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This means there will no Zoom classes *or* new assignments posted on Google Classroom. Enjoy the long weekend, and find a way to serve the community in honor of Dr. King!

Q2 Report Cards - Grading Window Closes Monday Jan. 18th
The grading window for the second quarter ends next Monday 1/18, and then teachers will be posting final grades for the quarter - these are the grades that will go on report cards and will count towards students' final grades for the year. It is our sincere hope that all of our students are passing all of their classes and performing to their full academic potential, so we encourage everyone to be checking Infinite Campus frequently and using this week as an opportunity to be checking in with teachers and completing any missing assignments.

Middle School Athletics Postponed
Due to the recently announced district decision, ALL middle school athletics will be postponed indefinitely. In the event that Hilsman transitions back to a hybrid or in-person model, the middle school Athletics Directors will reconsider and make a safe and healthy decision for students and families.

Technology Repair Request Form
If students are having technology issues, please fill out this form. Mrs. Neace and Mrs. Gonzalez are working around the clock to address each request and help make sure everyone's devices are working properly!

How can I support my student?

You are the most important person in helping your student succeed, and we want you to partner with us so we can help students be as successful as possible.

  • Help your student establish a routine that includes a consistent bedtime wake up time.

  • Help them establish a consistent place to work during class with a table/desk.

  • Help your student find a consistent place for school materials so they always know where their materials are. Help them organize their materials and/or papers for each class.

  • Headphones will be very helpful if there is more than one student attending class.
